It’s not too hard to tell we’re coming up to two major motors shows in April – the New York Motor Show and the Shanghai Motor Show. Earlier today we had the first real photos of the 2012 BMW M5, and now we get a completely undisguised Mercedes SLS AMG Roadster out playing in Hamburg. A million extra speeding tickets are being dished out every year compared with when Labour first came to power in 1997, the Opposition claimed this week. The Conservatives have published figures proving that the number of speeding fines has leaped from 712,753 in 1997 to 1,773,412 in 2006. The shocking stats include fines given to motorists caught on camera as well as those stopped at the roadside by traffic police.
BMW has started recruiting drivers in seven U.S. markets to field-test its first all-electric vehicle, the ActiveE. Seven hundred prospective drivers in Boston, Hartford, Conn., New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Sacramento and San Diego, Calif., are being sought.
